This question is always buzzing about, especially when we do events around London, “what causes bad skin?’.  People often find it hard to believe that one of the benefits of our product is the end of acne, no matter your age.  One of our regular customers decided to get Good Night AhhhMen for her 17 year old son, who was suffering from breakouts.  Within three days the acne he had when he started had all shrunk, and now two months in he hasn’t had any other breakouts.  He’s also sleeping like the dead (her words), no matter your age using chamomile on your face before bed really helps you sleep deeper.  Most skincare these days treats the symptoms of bad skin, but they don’t battle the underlying cause.

What causes bad skin?

Short Answer:  Excess oil (sebum) production, clogged hair follicles, bacteria and an excess of androgen hormones are the main causes of bad skin.

Long Answer:  Your skin produces its own oil, it does this because it is trying to moisturise itself, but in some people it over produces.  Clogged hair follicles, especially with men who shave their beards on a daily basis.  Bacteria growing and multiplying in your pores is another reason why you just can’t seem to shake your breakouts.  This of course can be affected by hormonal changes in your body, things like diet, stress or going through puberty.  Sleeping with makeup on can exacerbate bad skin, because it can clog your pores and allows the bacteria to grow and multiply.

How does using oil fix this?

Our blends balance your skin’s oil production while also acting as an antibacterial to kill the bacteria before you get a breakout. They also clean out your pores and help your skin to naturally exfoliate.  All of this is accomplished using Soil Association Certified Organic ingredients.  This treats the cause of bad skin, rather than managing the symptom.  When you use facial cleansers that promise to get rid of oily skin, it forces your skin to react, often times this means it creates even more oil because it believes its dry.

Why does it work better than water-based products?

When you use water-based products only about half of it moisturises your skin, because water evaporates, and when it does it takes some of your skins oil with it.  Again, your skin is triggered to produce more oil.  Get off the constant merry go round of skincare and treat the cause rather than the symptom of bad skin.
